Chapter 5: Ambush
I was awaken by a scream at which I thought was part of my nightmare, but it was my night nurse, and she was frightened.
"GET UP! GET UP! GET UP!" she screamed in my ear, shaking the shit out of me. I
was wide awake in a heartbeat, and jumped out of bed.
I turned to her with a hateful glance, "Any reason why you woke me up in the middle of the-" but I soon realized why she woke me up. Her whole face was covered in blood, coming from a deep gash on her head. On that gash was a big, black knife, with a weird symbol. I moved to her to see if
I can try to help her, but she was dead before I even spoke to her, it looked like she used all of her strength to wake me up. I shed no tears for her, but I took note of it to tell the general, so he can
announce her untimely death. There was even more screams coming from beyond my door, I was gonna make these people pay for what they are doing to this facility.
I stepped out of my room, hoping that the situation was under control, but I was wrong. I was
wrong by a long shot. A couple meters away from my room was a
thing, from what I heard munching on human
remains. I took a step loser to see who was being eaten alive, only
to have the thing turn around and gaze at me. The thing was
completely black as the darkness itself, its sharp, threatening teeth
are covered with blood and remains from the corpse. It had horns the
size of a goats horn, and the claws of a tigers claw. It gazed at me
with multiple red, glowing eyes. Then, the thing roared and lunged at
me, thinking it stunned me with its frightening blood-curdling
I wasted no time for my advantage, my adrenaline kicked in, which cause my body to be
stronger and durable, and did an uppercut on it. The creature didn't
have a head after that, its head was soaring in the air and landed by
the feet of the corpse. But that didn't stop the creature. We
both fell to the floor, the creature clawing my face off, and me
trying to get it off. Each time the monster scratched my face, there
was a burning feeling inside my head, rather on my face. I had to get
it off, I put my legs up on its belly, and launched it to a ceiling
light. The thing stuck to it like glue and fried till it was charred.
I looked closer to see the corpse, only to find my morning nurse, which could be early in
the morning. Both of my nurses, gone. Two people dead in the matter
of seconds. My mind started going crazy, and I lost my sanity for a
minute, till the intercom came on.
"Sven, I see ya there on cam. Your doing a hell of a job." It was the general,
he was in the security room, "Boy, I want you to come to the
helipad, it seems that the war is on!!" I nodded, as if he was
in front of me. And went to the nearest stairs. Every time I went to a
different floor, I could see my friends dealing with their problems.
John, the gunslinger, had no problem in dealing with the monsters. At
least six was on him, but he took out his heavy pistols, and unloaded
on them, dodging their claws. On the next floor, Albert, the brute,
was wrestling with a more bigger and stronger monster than the ones I
fought. Mark, the agile, smoothly dodged passed every monster that
were in his way, causing them to fight over each other, due to having
them claw each other. I made it to the 2nd
floor, the floor before the helipad, and I immediately felt a dark
and sinister presence nearby. There was a man, calling out for help
around the corner, I sprinted as fast as I could. But turning around
the corner was the biggest mistake I made. It was Joseph, the
pyromaniac, his back was facing me, and coming out of his head was
red, thick, barbed-wired chains with a mind of its own. Joseph was
tossed to the side like a useless toy and what I saw froze me in
Its eyes were completely red, like it had no eyeballs, just an empty socket filled with red.
Its cloak was a dark-grayish color which you could not see what is
beyond that. On its shoulders were spikes that are as long as his
head, covered in blood. Its gaze is like no others, cause I know who
it is, this figure has been tormenting me since I slept in this
facility. Every time I slept, it is there in my nightmares. it always
looks at me with his piercing gaze that will cause a normal person to
go insane. I cant believe this abomination is real, and came to
torment me in real life. It had no face, but I
knew it had an evil grin, and spoke to me, "Sven Grimmok
he murmured, "I was hoping my minions took care of you, it
seems that they failed
no matter, I can just take care of you
I found no words to respond, like he drained everything from me. I shook my head, trying
to find a word to say. He just stayed there, glaring at me, looking
for a response from me. I kept shaking my head, the words wont come
out! He sighed, "no final words before your real torment begins? Such a sad sight to see,
like a dog with its tail between its legs." he raised his
hands, the chains rattle with each movement.
I took all the strength I had to only say one word, in which I hoped to know, "NAME!"
I bellowed. He stopped, and gave me a questioning look. I found more
strength to find more words, "you've been torturing me
for the past 2 years, and you never told me your name!" I
pointed at him with a shivering finger, "WHAT IS YOUR NAME!?"
I pulled out a sword I found from a nearby dead body.
He looked at me, then the sword, and laughed, "You show courage in your eyes Sven."
the chains that are attached to his wrists crawled back into him,
"But that wont save you when the time comes." He looked
to the side, and a portal-like door opened, and blasted searing heat
into the halls. I didn't flinch, all I cared about was who he is. I charged at him,
catching him off guard, and doing a vertical slice to stop him from
stepping into the portal. When I was between him and the portal, I
swiped him with my sword to draw him away from the portal. He
smoothly stepped to the side, and caught my sword with his hand.
"You are irritating me, this is child's play. You are not ready yet for the change."
he snapped the sword in half and punched me on the side. I flew back
several meters and hit a wall with great force, almost causing the
wall to crumble. I grimaced with pain, but I got up, still determined to know him, "I want to know your
name, just tell me!" I yelled at him. He was almost completely
in the portal, he did one final glare at me and responded.
The portal closed behind him, leaving me, the darkness, and the tears.
I did not know how long I was sitting there, crying. But I did not care, for what was in my
mind was him talking to me, and my questions.
I will not forget that name for as long as I live. I
But what does he mean by "the change"? more and more questions poured
into my head like a waterfall, until the roof of the 2nd
floor slowly opened, and there was the biggest helicopter I ever
seen. In the helicopter was my boss, my general, and he has his
unforgettable smirk on his face.
"What the hell you waiting for, Sven? Get on the chopper, we have a war to win!"
he yelled out to me.
Chapter 6: Better Left
I was leaning forward a bucket I was hurling in, this was the side affect when my adrenaline
drains out, and from being scared to the point I almost died of
fright. Boss glanced at me, then at the rest of the survivors. John,
Albert, and Mark were the ones I knew made it. There were three other
people, somewhat older than me, but I did not recognize them at all.
And as always, Boss knew what I was thinking.
"Sven, these are the guinea pigs from section B." he started, he pointed to a
man, probably around his mid 20's, wearing pajamas, and is
sleeping, "this here is Jeffery, he may seem harmless because
he is sleeping, but once he wakes up, you might as well kiss your ass
Next to Jeff, he pointed to a woman. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my
life, and the way she looked at me was very seductively, and gave me
a wink, "This fine piece of art is Melanie." he leaned in
close to me, "don't let her looks deceive you, although
she is wearing extra-small clothes, she is sexy bark and vicious
bite." I smiled and waved at her, then hurled again.
Finally he pointed to a middle aged man, wearing all leather, and smoking a cigarette, he
glanced at me with a cold-blooded stare and gave me the finger, "This
is Max, he is a one-of-a-kind man, if you ask me. I don't know
what he can do, but from what I've heard, it ain't growing
flowers, I'll tell you that." he took his cigarette and
put it in his mouth and ate it. Other than Vetis, I am scared of
talking to this man.
The intercom for the helicopter came on, "we will be arriving at our destination in
about twelve hours, so just sit back and enjoy the view." I
guess this will probably be a good time to talk to the new people,
(besides Jeff, of course). The minute I was even close to Mel, she
grabbed me by the collar and yanked me towards her
close to her. The others looked at me in shock, then minded their own
She talked first, "You know, out of all of the new recruits, you're the cutest one."
and tapped my nose. I was about to melt when there was something she
said that caught my interest.
"Wait, new recruits?" I questioned her
"Yes. You and those three lamers are the new guys." she leaned in close to me,
face-to-face, "You know, I go for the cutest guys first."
Oooooooookay, next person.
Again, before I even walked close to Max, he looked up at me and said, "Fuck off,
you piece of shit." and continued whatever he was doin'.
Yea, nice people, huh?
After almost being seduced and ignored, I decided to talk to my friends. I decided to
talk to John, my best friend first. We were hanging out at our bunkers when I told him about the monsters, "Those things killed both of my nurses. I had to kill both of them."
John was twirling around his revolver while I was talking to him, he never loses sight of his
guns when he talks to people, "Only two? Man you shoulda' seen
my kill count that night, man! I had around ten kills!"
"You think it's so easy for you, huh? I bet I can shoot a monster from across the
hallways better than you." He stopped twirling his gun and looked at me, "Listen, I don't wanna start a
fight on who has the better power. I wanna win whatever Boss wants us
to win, but we cant do that if we keep on fighting." he put his
gun away, and walked out of the room.
* * *
It was around 10:00 pm, we will arrive at our destination in an hour. Everyone around me was
preparing for what was to come. John was equipped with multiple guns,
small and big, including a sniper rifle. Albert was lifting weights
and practicing his moves. Mark was chugging energy drinks by the
minute, for an extra boost for his power. Jeffery is sleeping it off.
Melanie is putting on make-up. The only two people who aren't doing
anything is Max and I. I was sitting down, checking out my new gear.
I got some new clothes, all black and made of leather. On the back of the leather coat is the
symbol of our group. Next to the clothes was two short swords,
completely refined, tempered for brutal action, and very durable.
This was given to me as a gift by Boss. After checking out my stuff,
I was walking over to the briefing area when there was a strange
feeling in the air. I looked around, no machines were running, there
was no sounds of the engines, nothing
just silence. I was in
the hallway that connects to the briefing room, and it became eerily
quiet. I thought It was just one of the shutdowns, to conserve energy
for the helicopter, and walked on to the briefing room.
I was almost to the door to the briefing room when I started to feel a little warm, I took off
the leather coat I've been wearing, but it only got hotter.
Hotter and hotter it got, I was sweating crazily, then it became so
hot I was not able to breathe. I collapsed to the floor, gasping for
any pockets of air. I had to reach the room, or I will suffocate! My
legs became weak, I had to crawl to the door. Every time I moved, my
body was about to explode, I felt excruciating pain everywhere, the
sweat started to blind my eyes. I was leaning on the door, all I had
to do was push the button to open the door. I had no strength to lift
my arm up, I was so drained and too much in pain to do so. But a
voice in my head spoke to me. Well, well, well
what do we have here?
Someone who says they're strong and confident, and can't even open a door? Pathetic.
I lifted my head; no one was in front of me. But the voice sounded like
it was right next to me. Was this Vetis? Is he tormenting me for his
You think Vetis can do this to you? You are wrong by a long shot.
My adrenaline kicked in, and I shot up to my feet. This is not a
conscience, I'm not going crazy. I am talking to someone, but who?
such power you have, Sven. But its going to take more than
standing to save your life, all you have to do is push the button,
can you do that?
This guy doesn't know who he is talking to, with ease, I turned around, and pushed the
button, and the door flew open. Gusts of fresh, cooling air blew
around me, like as if it welcomed me. I obviously accepted their
cooling breathe. I opened my eyes, and saw all of the recruits
gathering around a large table, but then stopped when they saw me.
Everyone was shocked, including Boss, who was farther away from the
soldiers. I was breathing heavily, my hair was drenched in sweat, my
eyes and nose were bleeding. I just stood there, I knew I was gonna
give. So I saved all of my energy to say the last words before I lost
I fell on the floor, listening to the cries of my friends, and the evil laughter coming
from inside my head, then the world was in a standstill once more.
Chapter 7: Change
My dream was the same, as it has always been for the past two years. I was tied down by barbed
wire against a steaming-hot rock, burning my back and screaming in
pain. All around me was plain darkness, and silence. Every time I
tried to move to free myself, the wires would get tighter, and the
rock would get hotter and hotter. All of this was the same every time
I slept, but this dream was different. Only able to look around with
my eyes, I found a pair of yellow eyes a couple meters above me, just
barely visible from my sight. I knew it wasn't Vetis, but I was
still scared out of my mind. The eyes got closer and closer till it
was face-to-face with my eyes. It scanned me top to bottom, and made
a sinister chuckle. Then it spoke.
"THIS is what has been keeping me in this torture!? Either you are something else, or
I'm going crazy!" it roared. Its voice was deep and
surprisingly calm. My anger made me lunge at him, only to realize I was chained and got even more pain, I screamed in agony, but I still found strength for words, "Who are you?
How am I keeping you here?" I asked.
"Oh, great, it asks questions
" he grumbled.
"Yes, I ask questions, I'm a fucking human! I expect an answer!" I snapped.
He showed a grin, with sharp teeth to go with it, "Well apparently your not, if you
can keep me in here, then your not human."
"THEN WHAT AM I!?"
A big, leathery hand grabs me by the throat, and the eyes got closer, "Listen, I
don't care who or what you are. All I care about is why I am
here, in your head
I froze. "Wait
what did you just say?"
"What? You never knew?"
"No, your not in my head, this is all just a dream
The eyes went back a few meters away, "Dream? No, Sven Grimmok, for the past two years
you never had a dream, this is all real. If you don't believe
me, check your back when you 'wake up'."
My eyes started to get
heavy, then I drifted away into the real world.
* * *
My eyes shot open and I quickly sat up, breathing heavily. I was put in my sleeping chambers,
with the lights off. Though there was a blinking red light above the
door leading out of my room, that meant there was something wrong
with the helicopter, and the doors were sealed, to prevent injuries
to passengers. I continued to sit up on my bed, blankets still
covering half my body, deep in thought about what the thing said to
me, in my dreams.
